When you work full time Monday – Friday as a web developer, more often than not coming back and doing more web development isn’t the most enticing idea.

However, funnily enough I still enjoy doing it. A lot of the freelance work I’m doing at the moment is pretty varying, from simply putting up content pages to designing content management systems.

Unfortunately for me, I have a few projects of my own that are currently having to be put on the back-burner (Petals for one), but I’m actually able to assign some work on Petals features to a freelance project that I’m doing (which is both handy, and exactly why I’m working on Petals in the first place), subsidising work to save both my client and I time and money.

As for other projects, such as the RPG Music Pack, again this is on the back-burner due to lack of time, inspiration and the fact that I don’t have a keyboard to write with. I did, however just go and buy myself a Double Bass which is ridiculously fun (and strenuous on the wrist and fingers). It’s definitely started giving me some musical inspiration so hopefully soon I’ll pluck up the courage to invest some more money in a keyboard.

It’s not that money is tight, but my financial management skills are seriously lacking *looks at £70 Sainsbury’s shop*.

My lack of free time has left what [free] time I tend to take kind of empty, generally I don’t have enough time to sit down and think about writing music, so I end up wasting an hour watching an episode of 24 (currently on season 5, episode 6), or playing Left 4 Dead (2) . Luckily this bank holiday has given me that extra weekend-time to partially organise myself and do a few things I’ve been meaning to for a while, so potentially there’ll be less of a lag on my to do list!

Anywho, I’ve had myself a break, best get back to work.

I’ve started development on Petals™ which is a project by Loose Roots.

Petals is a collection of web applications, purpose built, but with future development and expansion in mind.

The main project currently under the ‘Petals’ label is Filer an online file management and distribution application. The first use of filer will be to completely re-create Zelda Sounds with a proper system for administration, decent statistics, a members system and general performance improvements. Filer will provide all of this and also put forward the possibility to eventually white-label the system and provide other administrators the same application to run their websites on.

Another smaller yet just as flexible and useful application is Petals Img a simple Image Manager, great for photography or art websites that don’t need a full CMS but just some way of indexing, and managing the images on their site.

To keep up to date with the development of Petals, keep an eye out at http://petals.looseroots.com alternatively go ahead and just follow the twitter feed: http://twitter.com/petals_

Regards,

Joel

Looking for anyone who fancies a week or a long weekend boarding or skiing somewhere in the alps. I’ve yet to quite decide where I’m actually going, as finding accomodation and such for one person is proving harder than I’d thought.

I’m not the greatest snowboarder in the world so any levelled people are welcome to come along and join in the snowy goodness

A new fantastic book has just been published that I recommend to everyone.

I’ve always been a big dreamer, my sleep has always been filled with vivid, crazy and exciting dreams – and I loved it! After the girl I loved left me, I stopped dreaming completely. For months I woke up, feeling like I’d had no sleep, exhausted and depressed. The concepts and ideas within this book helped me take back control my emotions and my life. Not only did I let go of all anger and bitterness towards her, but I forgave myself for the mistakes that I blamed the breakup on. I have moved on, have never been happier and once again have incredible dreams! http://www.thesecrettolettinggoandmovingon.com/

This book will help anyone to neutralise the power of negative emotions that have resulted from some kind of offence or hurt from the past. Most people want to be free from the damaging words of actions of others that cause us pain but just don’t know how. Some people just try to squash stuff down on the inside hoping it will eventually go away. (The author reckons that this can be a cause of depression.) Others let the hurt and pain ‘feed’ the way they think, feel, talk and act. Often this causes more emotional damage and for some can result in a life of frustration, anger and even hatred which can be turned on themselves.

The author reveals why some people seem to be more easily offended than others and how negative childhood experiences can shape an adult’s ability to handle disappointment. He describes the 4 ways that people get ‘offended’ and the resulting negative effects both internally – in terms of their thinking and emotions – and externally in terms of speech and behaviour. He also addresses how negative habits and addictions can result from unresolved offences from the past.

He writes in a compassionate yet challenging style and leaves the reader in no doubt of the solution to letting go and moving on. He gives a clear step by step process for dealing with the past as well as staying free in the future.

If you have ever had any kind of relationship breakdown or break-up that still has pain associated with it (however big or small) this book will show you a way through and out. I know it did for me.

http://www.thesecrettolettinggoandmovingon.com/

If you know anyone who you feel that this book may help, please send them to the site or buy them a present, I guarantee it’ll change their life.

I don’t like that my content of my blog is all squished up so I’m going to drop down to one side column and stretch the content wider so It gives more space.

I’m doing this because I have the intention of doing some more tutorials for CSS / HTML / jQuery and Photoshop so figure having more content space will be nice.

Currently, I’m working on a couple of cool projects in my spare time, one I’m working on won’t be out for a while, but should be a laugh once it’s done!

Again, I know this is a bit of a mini-blog, but will get back with some more interesting stuff shortly!

Not moving too far away, much closer to my brother, but significantly further from work, so I can no longer wake up 15 minutes before I start! Think I might get a bike.

I’m hoping (once I’ve settled in), to get myself a nice Keyboard so I can start writing and playing some music again.

So yeah, i’ll write an update in a few days once the move has gone smoothly.

Investigating at the moment, but it appears they tried to place an iframe on the page to an infected website…

Looks like they used a botnet for downloading/uploading the files.. either that or just a load of proxies. I’m hoping it was just a simple password crack so that a reset of all my passwords will fix it.

Cheers for now!
