Explosions, Wrong Parts and Lost Data

So after a lovely week down in Cornwall, I have returned to Brighton.

Spent the weekend mostly in a grape-based-intoxicated-state watching The Wire and listening to live music at Brighton Loop Festival.

The festival was great, go to see Portico Quartet live, although they definitely could have done with a longer set, as well as some cool random other bands!

I ordered a bunch of new PC parts before I went down to Cornwall so that when I got back I could have a new computer to build, woop!

I turned my computer on Sunday evening and POP! a massive spark shoots out the back of the PSU, blowing the fuse. After resetting the fuse my PC wouldn’t start at all… so bugger! I borrowed a PSU from work on Monday and whacked that one in, started it up and it got stuck at “Verifying DMI Pool Data…” .. or whatever it says.. so i’m just like… nooo, open up the BIOS and I get this lovely view;

So yeah, secondary hard drive (or my “data” drive as I like to call it) is completely corrupted. That means I have lost every single picture I took in the last 5 years (New Zealand, Cornwall, the lot), as well as ALL music I created (College Work, RPG Music Pack, and a crap load of other cool stuff).

Not only that, but after rebooting into Windows (and spending 2 years on the phone  re-activating due to major hardware change), it’s barely operable. No browser works, they all just crash as soon as you try and run them. The start menu doesn’t open properly, and any file-reading on the disk grinds to a halt.

I’m guessing my wireless card is also fried as it fails to connect at all.

Luckily I managed to eventually copy across my dev server files, as well as a few downloads which should help when re-installing but im totally gutted.

Also, I realised the PSU im borrowing doesn’t fit my new Motherboard so I’ve had to order a converter!

When the new PC IS up and running I shall finally have a semi-decent set up which will be nice!
